[b]R2-D2[/b] is a robot character in the Star Wars universe created by item:109526[George Lucas]. An astromech droid (referred to in the novel as a 'thermocapsulary dehousing assister'), R2-D2 is a major character in all Star Wars films, and is also the first character to appear in the franchise. Along with his protocol droid companion item:110658[C-3PO], he joins or supports item:110629[Anakin Skywalker], item:110632[Luke Skywalker], item:110638[Princess Leia], item:110657[Padmé Amidala], and item:110643[Obi-Wan Kenobi] in various points in the saga. English Actor Kenny Baker has played R2-D2 in all six original Star Wars films and reprises the role in item:108419[Star Wars: The Force Awakens], the first installment of the sequel trilogy, making him one of just two characters/actors along with C-3PO (portrayed by Anthony Daniels) to appear in all seven films.
