If we want to go to space we need to do it through a government funded NASA program just like we have in the past. This is not a commercial operation. I'm not saying we can't have a commercial space program, I am saying that a space program for the purpose of discovery is not a commercial profit based program and has to be funded by the people for the knowledge of the people.
What I would like to see is, That lil box that you check to allow $1 of your money that goes towards elections, They should make one or remove the other, and make it for NASA research, or they could put a donate box up and enter your own amount. we get more from space programs than just a bunch of people leaving Earth to enter a zero gravity area and watch stars. Many different everyday items has come from the pace research programs.
The commercial applications of space are soon to be put to use but NASA needs to step up its game if we are going to have a solidified "ground" rules for space use.
But NASA is part of the United States. What gives them that jurisdiction? If anything there should be a collective agreement of willing countries.
It should be increased, but at small increments. We shouldn't funnel tons of money into the program as we have in the past, there simply isn't a need, if there was even a need before. I believe there are great things to be found in space, but I don't believe they need to be found in the near future.
There is a good video by Neil deGrasse Tyson on this issue. I fully agree that giving people hope and something to explore makes us as people greater. There is not much left to explore on this planet, but there is an infinite gap of space outside the atmosphere!
