Todd Haynes (born January 2, 1961) is an American independent film director and screenwriter. He is known for having directed the acclaimed films Safe (1995), Far from Heaven (2002), I'm Not There (2007), and Carol (2015). Haynes also directed the short film Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (1987), Poison (1991), and Velvet Goldmine (1998). Far From Heaven and I'm Not There received Academy Award nominations.
