No. With so few monarchies still existing in the 21st century, having Kings and Queens is most definitely a plus. If not for prestige and national identity, then it is for the millions of dollars spent by tourists who come from all around the world to visit areas related to the royal family.

Surely if there are so few monarchies then that would make us less likely to retain the monarchy. Why not follow the example of other nations? The position of Head of State should not be a novelty for tourists to gawp it, it should be a position of respect and authority. Their responsibility first should be to represent their people democratically, and second it should be to effectively represent the country on the international stage, yet the Queen does neither.
