He is known for having directed the acclaimed films Safe (1995), Far from Heaven (2002), I'm Not There (2007), and item:110157[Carol] (2015). Haynes also directed the short film Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (1987), Poison (1991), and Velvet Goldmine (1998). Far From Heaven and I'm Not There received Academy Award nominations.
