Increased amounts of communication leading to relying on others more. People are on average less active leading to lack of dopamine causing an easier onset of chronic depression. Better communication channels to distribute suicide informations and statistics. In the past there may have been even more suicides without anyone noticing.

But it's true that communication has become more of a purpose in itself than a means to an end. The well-known phrase "publish or perish" is now applicable outside Academia. There is an increased (physical) dependency (as complete pc's are turned into mobile information carriers) for outside approval and/or feedback, and even an increased tolerance as a consequence.
