No.

GamerGate made themselves beyond support when they became to become involved with misogynistic politics.

Games are an art form. They should be respected as such. And one thing that happens to art forms is that, as their potential for good is explored, so too is their potential to do harm. A story can hurt feelings as much as it can elevate.

Our art form was never free of politics. No art form is. No part of life is. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

Not every game has to be some Fifth Wave feminist exploration of the transgender experience. And it's not even that there's never a good, valid reason to have overtly sexualized characters, male or female, or to explore ideas that may not be politically correct. But video gaming as a medium has been infantile for so long that it's facing its growing pains.

If GamerGate wants to be taken seriously, they need to start acting like adults and trying to prepare the industry to be at least as socially acceptable as stand-up comedy if not as socially acceptable as film.

The fact that the majority of votes is "yes" is honestly disturbing. True, the original intent of GamerGate was to expose corruption. This is, in theory, an honorable cause (even though there is basically no legitimate evidence to show that this was a problem in the first place), but good intentions aren't what count. This turned into a hate engine, facilitating violent, appalling, criminal threats and exposing the gaming community at its most vicious. The gaming community is still struggling to gain legitimacy in the eyes of the general public; this controversy set us back by years.
