Björk Guðmundsdóttir (born 21 November 1965), known mononymously as Björk, is an Icelandic experimental singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and occasional actress. She initially became known as the lead singer of the alternative rock band The Sugarcubes, whose 1987 single "Birthday" was a hit on US and UK indie stations. Björk began her career as a solo artist in 1993. Her album Debut was rooted in electronic, house, jazz and trip hop. Over her three-decade solo career, Björk has developed an eclectic musical style that incorporates aspects of electronic, alternative dance, trip hop, experimental, glitch, jazz, alternative rock, avant-garde, and classical music.
